Specialized Training


Specialized training is limited to a period of sixteen weeks, or less. Such an activity may or may not involve leave from work.  The purpose of this type of training will be to acquire skills and/or knowledge that will enhance the employee’s role in the college and/or enhance the employee’s expertise in their discipline or specialization.  Only those courses that have a formalized curriculum and/or an evaluation of learning outcomes will be recognized in this category.  (Conferences are specifically excluded in the definition of Specialized Training.)

SPECIALIZED TRAINING funding is available to any permanent employee upon successful completion of probation plus one (1) year’s service, subject to these conditions:

  • Only one (1) application for either Long-Term Professional Development or Specialized Training per year will be considered
